An exceptionally important lecture was held at the Faculty of Organizational Studies “Eduka” by Prof. Dr. Slobodan Savić, one of the leading experts in the field of forensic medicine and medical expertise. The topic of the lecture was the medical assessment of domestic violence, with special emphasis on the forensic, medical, and legal aspects of this complex social issue.
During the two-and-a-half-hour presentation, students had the opportunity to become familiar with the key challenges faced by experts in practice. Through examples from his extensive forensic medical practice, Professor Savić brought closer to students the importance of proper identification, documentation, and interpretation of bodily injuries. Special emphasis was placed on distinguishing defensive injuries from those resulting from a direct assault.
Students were also introduced to why the timing, location, and age of injuries are of crucial importance in forensic evaluation procedures. One of the important segments of the lecture addressed the recognition of signs of chronic abuse and their significance in court proceedings. The professor also pointed out common problems in practice, among which inadequate primary medical documentation and late reporting of violence stand out. The lecture enabled students to better understand how important forensic analysis is for the protection of victims and the proper conduct of legal proceedings.
Following the presentation, a dynamic discussion took place, during which students showed great interest in the topic. Questions were related to the relationship between medical confidentiality and the legal obligation to report violence, as well as to the methodology of forensic assessment in cases involving minors as victims. The particular value of this meeting lies in the fact that students had the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with real challenges from forensic practice. The lecture once again confirmed the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to understanding domestic violence, linking psychology, medicine, law, and social protection.
This event also serves as an announcement of the Summer School of Forensic Psychology, within which Prof. Dr. Slobodan Savić will also be one of the lecturers. The Summer School will provide students and interested participants with additional opportunities to deepen their knowledge in the fields of forensic psychology, forensic medicine, and work with vulnerable categories of victims.
Through such activities, the Faculty of Organizational Studies “Eduka” continues to develop an educational model based on applicable knowledge, professional relevance, and direct contact with practice. The lecture by Prof. Dr. Savić left a strong impression on the students and confirmed the importance of involving distinguished practitioners in modern higher education.
