To what extent are we, as individuals, responsible for one another, and what role do solidarity, understanding and support play in contemporary society? These questions were at the heart of the guest lecture “Why We Need Each Other”, held on 13 October 2026 at the Faculty of Organizational Studies “Eduka”.

The guest speaker was Jasmina Nikolić, Director of the Victimology Society of Serbia (VDS), who introduced students and professors to the importance of organised support for victims of crime and violence, as well as the need for institutions, professionals and society as a whole to work together. Drawing on more than two decades of professional experience, Jasmina Nikolić presented the mission and activities of the Victimology Society of Serbia, highlighting the importance of recognising victims’ needs, providing professional and emotional support, and empowering them on their journey from victimhood to regaining control over their own lives.

Particular attention was given to the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, connecting organisations and building a support system in which no individual should be left to cope alone. The lecture also raised important questions about professional responsibility, empathy, and the role of psychology and organisational sciences in addressing complex social challenges. The most significant outcome of the meeting was an agreement to organise professional internships for FOS Eduka students at the Victimology Society of Serbia.

This cooperation creates an opportunity for students to connect their theoretical knowledge of psychology, management and organisation with practical professional experience, learn about the work of an organisation that supports victims, and develop the skills necessary for responsible work with people. For FOS Eduka, this agreement represents another step towards developing an educational model that connects academic knowledge with real social needs and professional practice.

Because the value of education is measured not only by what we know, but also by what we can change through our knowledge. Jasmina Nikolić’s lecture reminded us that solidarity is not merely a social value, but a responsibility demonstrated through concrete action. That is why the question “Why do we need each other?” remains more than just the title of a lecture — it becomes a call for future professionals to contribute to society through their knowledge, empathy and professional commitment.
